Mission Statement
The Williamsport Sanitary Authority (WSA) is
committed to its fundamental objective of providing the highest quality
municipal wastewater service for its residential, commercial and
industrial users at a reasonable price for Williamsport and surrounding
communities.
Implementation
To meet that objective, the Authority will adhere to the following
principles:

History

Williamsport Sanitary
Authority (WSA) was created in 1952 with the purpose of treating the
sanitary sewage and compatible industrial wastewater of the Greater
Williamsport Area.
-
In 1953, the WSA constructed
its two wastewater treatment plants for primary treatment.
-
$1,133,000 was spent to
acquire the city sewer system which in turn furnished the funds for major
storm conduit projects to remove much of the storm water from the system
-
Plants upgraded to secondary
treatment in 1974.
-
Value of total system has
grown to over $40,000,000.
-
WSA operates and maintains
the sewer collection system within the City of Williamsport including
three pumping stations.
Service Area and Treatment
Plants
Central Plant
-
Rated at 10.5 million
gallons per day (MGD) with a design population of 60,000 persons
-
Treats the wastewater from
Williamsport east of Lycoming Creek, eastern Loyalsock Township, Borough
of South Williamsport, and a portion of Armstrong Township.
West Plant
-
Rated capacity of 5.5 MGD,
and an organic loading capacity of 60,000 persons including industrial
wastewater
-
Treats the wastewater from
Williamsport west of Lycoming Creek, including the Reach Road Industrial
Park, portions of Old Lycoming Township, Loyalsock, and Lycoming
Townships and the Borough of DuBoistown.
Customer Base and Programs

Treats wastewater from over
19,000 accounts, connected population of over 50,000 people

Hundreds of industries,
commercial establishments and institutions

Treatment agreements with
surrounding municipalities

Sewer collection systems of
those contract municipalities are owned and maintained by each
individual municipality

Environmental Protection
Agency (U.S. EPA) approved pretreatment program.
